On the road to environmental sustainability.

Welcome to écolution. Parkland’s ongoing commitment to lighten our environmental footprint, reduce carbon, and move toward sustainability while continuing to power journeys and energize the communities we serve. We’ll get there by driving change across Parkland, in the products we produce and sell, in our culture and operational practices, and through partnerships built on aligned goals and philosophies. With écolution, Parkland is one step ahead of our customers’ evolving energy needs.

Products

Across our geographies, we’re working with customers to provide lower carbon solutions for their power and energy needs. But that’s not all.

Burnaby Renewable Feedstocks

Crude oil is being replaced by alternative feedstocks such as tallow and canola oil at our Burnaby refinery to reduce our petrochemical inputs and create lower-carbon fuels. Through this process known as co-processing, we took the equivalent of 15,000 cars off the road in 2019, 45,000 cars off the road in 2020, and 70,000 cars off the road in 2021. The renewable fuels our plants currently produce have one-eighth the carbon intensity of conventional fuels. By 2026 with planned production, this equates to permanently removing approximately 700,000, or 25 per cent of the passenger vehicles on British Columbia’s roads.

Propane Switching

In our home heating business in Canada, we are actively working with customers to switch from heating oil to propane. Heating with propane emits approximately 38% less carbon than heating oil. We are targeting an additional 25,000 conversions across Canada by 2030.

Reducing carbon in the Caribbean

Parkland Caribbean is actively working with power and commercial clients to help transition to lower carbon fuels, including renewable diesel, liquified natural gas, and liquified petroleum gas. In 2020, we also supported our shipping customers’ transition away from High Sulfur Fuel Oil (HSFO or HFO), providing vessels in the region with high-quality, compliant Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).

Electric Charging

We are building a network of electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers at many of our Parkland Canada retail locations to provide convenient charging for our EV-driving customers. We currently have locations in Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia, and we are exploring other opportunities to expand charging infrastructure in other regions.

Techron Cleaning

All of Parkland Canada’s retail sites in British Columbia and Alberta, operating under the Chevron banner, sell gasoline with the unique Techron additive. This additive helps clean and protect vital engine parts, which helps lower harmful emissions while driving.
